Reader in residenceThe Scottish Poetry Library's Reader in Residence is Ryan Van Winkle. Ryan is game to do whatever it takes to get people reading poetry. He'll be working on the same model as the Scottish Arts Council's Writers in Residence, spending half his time working on projects and sessions and half his time on his own writing. But where Writers in Residence are there to help people to write, Ryan will mainly be encouraging everyone to read poetry. He will be working face to face with readers in the City Libraries and at the Scottish Poetry Library, and going outside the library environment too. He will also be online with the Reading Room discussion group, so you don't need to live in Edinburgh to catch up with his news, events and reading ideas. Ryan has been a member of the Forest Cafe, helping run this collectively-owned arts space and cafe, as well as an editorial assistant with Edinburgh Review, and is heavily involved with workshops and publications. He is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh's creative writing degree, and of Syracuse University.
