About this series

These favourite poems are taken from our continuing series of Selected Works events. This is the Scottish Poetry Library's poetry equivalent of that old radio favourite, Desert Island Discs: we ask critics, novelists and artists as well as poets to present their favourite poems. Sometimes they make a special selection from the work of one particular poet.

As well as Alexander McCall Smith and Simon Armitage, guests in recent years have included Joan Bakewell, Louis de Bernières, John Byrne, Mark Doty, Douglas Dunn, Janice Galloway, Joanne Harris and Pat Kane – download some of their choices in the Poetry Box.
