For writers

The greatest part of a writer's time is spent in reading, in order to write: a man will turn over half a library to make one book.

Samuel Johnson

One of the best things you can do to develop your own writing is to read the Scottish Poetry Library poetry collections and resources.

Take a look at the Scottish Poetry Library's Resources for writers, which includes a list of selected poetry competitions and some useful tips. Explore the Poetry Box resources by poet and publisher Helena Nelson and poet and editor Donny O'Rourke, on starting to write and getting your poems published.

The Scottish Poetry Library cannot help you to publish your work, but we can provide you with the books and poetry to lift your writing to a new level.
